Indigenous Cultural Center

Pilot Project in Santa Martha Native Community

We want to implement an Indigenous Cultural Center with an institute of languages, art, dance and singing; a museum that shows the exhibition of indigenous history and artwork; a market to strengthen trade in the area and a clinic where medical care and other health services are provided.

The cultural center is part of our concept of "Innovative Integration of Indigenous Peoples", which also includes the guarantee of rights to land titles, access to drinking water, economic reforestation and the expansion of the Indigenous Embassy.

The vision

We want to create the conditions for indigenous people to live a self-sufficient, modern, authentic and dignified life.  A life in which they can live their culture and live from their culture.  The cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of Peru shall be preserved and flourish again.  The culture of the Shipibo shall be taken to the world and the world shall come to them as a guest.

A connection shall be created between the ancestral culture and the modern world. An exchange in which both sides will grow!

AUTONOMY AND INFRASTRUCTURE

For an indigenous tribe to sustain itself and grow, basic needs must first be met: clean water and infrastructure such as electricity and rubbish collection. The lagoons must be cleared and liberated from the occupation of invasive wood companies. In addition, they must receive their official land title, which finally identifies the indigenous territory as their own land.

CULTURAL CENTER OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

Santa Martha is located just ten minutes from the city center, but surrounded by nature. In the indigenous community we want to create a cultural center, with an institute of art, languages, where both ancient languages, such as Shipibo, and modern ones, such as English, with traditional dance and modern movements such as yoga. There will be a museum with an exhibition about the different indigenous peoples and their art, with a botanical garden of medicinal plants and a market of handicrafts and local products to support livelihoods. Attached to the center there will be a clinic for the basic medical care of the population.

In the place there will be space for traditional dances and celebrations, such as the Ani Xeati, and even a festival of indigenous cultures.

REFORESTATION AND NETWORK

Later on, we want to transfer the project to other communities, link them together to raise the standard of living and future opportunities for indigenous peoples in a wide area, guarantee their basic and land rights, and together reforest and protect the rain forest.

It's a great vision and has great potential!

However, the first steps begin in Santa Martha with our pilot project, which will start as a cooperation project between the Regional Government of Ucayali, the Shipibo-Konibo Embassy and the Germany/Europe delegation.

This means that the government supports us with the land certificate, the expansion of the water supply and the infrastructure, and will partly finance the cultural center. We - the cooperation of the Shipibo-Konibo Embassy with the foreign delegation - are doing our part, with expertise in organization, volunteering on the spot, public relations and fundraising in Europe to get the other part of the funding.

It is a great opportunity to launch an initiative that makes a permanent difference in the lives of many indigenous people.

If you want to be a part of this change, your support would be greatly appreciated!
