Shipibo-Conibo
The Shipibo Konibos are known for their distinctive patterned art, deep connection with nature and knowledge of ancient healing traditions through the use of ayahuasca and other medicinal plants. Most of the 35,000 Shipibos live in Peru, on the banks of the Ucayali River.
Culture and artwork
The Shipibo-Konibos are known for their distinctive handicrafts with their typical patterns, called Kène in the Shipibo language. The patterns have a long history and are closely linked to nature and traditional amazonian medicine.
One legend goes as follows:
"In the beginning a giant anaconda lived in the dark, singing the patterns on its back, and the patterns fell from its mouth to its songs. The patterns came together and took shape creating the universe and people."
In fact, the Shipibo patterns are not randomly arranged figures. They are like an all-encompassing, all-encompassing web, which indicates how intact and complete the structure is.
With the help of Amazonian plants, they become visible, can be represented and in traditional healing sessions can be corrected and thus healed.
In the Ani Xeati initiation rite, the Piri Piri master plant is dripped into the eyes of the girls to open their visions and perceive the patterns of their dreams and thoughts.
Thus, the patterns can be transferred into
