Artisanal fair in native community

Promotion of Shipibo culture in the native community of Puerto Firmeza

Ambassador Roger Bardales visited the Puerto Firmeza native community together with international visitors on the occasion of its 69th anniversary and its first intercultural agricultural and artisanal fair.

The event is an initiative to revalue the Shipiba culture with its language, dances and crafts and above all its worldview.

At the fair, the Shipibas exhibit and sell their crafts, which are complex masterpieces. Their designs have meanings and symbolize the ayahuasca visions. It is a great ancestral knowledge, which is passed down from generations of mothers to children, and is also part of ancestral medicine.

The indigenous embassy is helping to preserve and promote Shipibo art by supporting the development of digital marketplaces for international distribution. We are also calling for road improvements to bring more visitors to the native communities where Shipibo culture is alive.

This visit was the start of a series of travels to local communities to gain an overview of their situation and needs.
