Awarding of the title to the property of Santa Martha

Native community as model with legal security, basic rights and future concepts

On Thursday, November 23, the Santa Martha native community in Pucallpa received their long awaited property title, providing legal security to more than 450 families who have inhabited more than 54 hectares of land for 40 years.

The event was celebrated during the "First regional meeting of traditional medicine and indigenous ancestral knowledge" and was attended by the regional governor of Ucayali and the ambassador of the Shipibo Nation and head of the community, Roger Bardales.

Gambini assured that, with this title, the residents will be the absolute owners of their lands. As of today, the regional government of Ucayali will collaborate with the initiative of the indigenous embassy to build a language institute and improve the infrastructure of their educational centers and prioritize health services for the benefit of the community.

“I know everything is going to be fine now that you people are finally having your title to the property. No one will ever bother you again. You are going to build your future here your destiny so that the next generation that comes along will have their space and their tranquillity." Manuel Gambini

Roger Bardales, leader of the community, indicated that with the support of cooperators, he will continue to carry out more actions in favor of the villagers.

“We want to turn this community into a model of sustainable development, with basic rights to water, light, health and education fulfilled and with innovative concepts of reforestation and agriculture." Roger Bardales

Despite the rain, many residents attended the event, among them many children, for whom the awarding of the degree represents a decisive turning point in their future.
